Cinema Catering Advice – Part II

Continuing our celebration of great cafes and restaurants within cinemas and art centres.

Hackney Picturehouse Pizzette

Moving east to Hackney, the Hackney Picturehouse Bar & Kitchen is one of our favourites for providing an appropriate and value for money menu, which changes to suit the time of day. The café bar design combines a long bar with refectory and smaller tables. The menu, designed with a combination of small plates, boards to share, along with more substantial items, also caterers to destination catering visitors as well as cinema goers. The daytime menu includes a selection of pizzette’s (mini pizzas) at £3.50. Served on a wooden board and drizzled with oil, the one we tried was delicious but at the price, as may be expected, not a replacement for a main meal.  Their coffee, is also excellent and served in striking crockery.

A similar approach to quality food and drink can also be found at Arnolfini in Bristol. Arnolfini is one of Europe’s leading centres for contemporary arts, with a cinema just one of the many reasons to visit. The café bar design provides an all day environment and menu that may encourage you to stay all day. Dishes, with a focus on small plates include pizzette (£6) and chilli fries £3.

Moving north, Cornerhouse in Manchester is a huge success with both filmgoers and those wishing to enjoy the all day eating environment and menu. Dishes include chorizo, pecorino and leek frittata (£3.25) and salads (£4.70). On Monday and Tuesday evenings ‘the Reel Deal’ ticket offer includes a cinema ticket, homemade stonebaked pizza and a drink (alcoholic or soft) for £12.50.
