Young V&A Catering Tender Advice

We were privileged to have been invited to a preview prior to the official opening on the Young V&A on Saturday 1st July 2023.

Montfort Catering Consultants supported the V&A with a catering tender exercise to identify and appoint an entrepreneurial catering partner with strong experience of the family market.

Following a £13 million capital project investment, Young V&A is a national museum dedicated to children and young people. With visitor numbers forecast to be in the region of 550,000 per year, Young V&A has been reimagined as a powerhouse of creativity for the young from infants to early teens. It is a place to imagine, play, create, debate and design for tomorrow, as a new national museum entirely dedicated to children

Signalling the V&A’s commitment to ‘Generation Alpha’, it accommodates three new permanent galleries entitled Imagine, Play and Design as well as showcasing national collection displays spanning 500 years and from around the world.

Young V&A public commercial offer includes:

  • The new Café located centrally in the ‘Town Square’ of the museum
  • Two shops
  • Paid for family exhibition
  • Donation giving
  • Venue hire
  • Paid learning programmes

Following an informal market engagement exercise and pre-qualification process, we supportged the V&A with a tender exercise to identify and appoint an entrepreneurial catering partner with strong experience of the family market that:

  • Establishes Young V&A as a café destination for families
  • Is an intrinsic element of the visitor experience to Young V&A
  • Celebrates the rich diversity and food culture of Bethnal Green and surrounding East London
  • Captures Young V&A’s vision as an institution which promotes creativity and playful learning
  • Reflects the economic landscape within which Young V&A and their audiences sit
  • Endorses sustainable practices and tells design stories about the offer
  • Optimises income generated through commercial trading to financially support the work of Young V&A
