As the saying goes, ‘what goes around comes around’ and cask ale is back in vogue again. Cask ale now has an appeal to a new audience of younger, affluent and sociable drinkers, and has a 15% share of the UK beer market (equating to one in every six pints). Those are some of the findings from the Cask Report 2011-12.

The report also found that cask ale drinkers were twice as likely to visit the pub as non-cask drinkers and spend more when they are there.

There is of course relevance even if you don’t run a pub. Offering cask ale within visitor catering cafes, restaurants, bars and the like could provide a further income stream while providing a level of differentiation from the local competition.
