Profile – Paul Smith
A catering consultant since 1998, Paul is an enthusiastic, committed and motivated catering professional with over 18 years senior level catering consultancy experience and extensive operational knowledge gained across a broad range of complex commercial and public organisations with diverse stakeholder requirements. This has included working with a wide range of high profile arts organisations, visitor and leisure attractions, universities and large international corporations.
Before founding Montfort, Paul was co-owner of another catering consultancy practice, where he was responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering significant projects across some of the world’s most recognised organisations.
He has supported and provided specialist catering advice to organisations including the BBC, Swiss Re (‘the Gherkin’), Barbican, Arnolfini, Clifton Park Museum, Warner Bros., the Geffrye Museum, Goldsmiths College, MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry), McGraw-Hill, Heaton Park, Kingsley Napley, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Chester Zoo, Southbank Centre, Chapter Arts Centre, Horniman Museum & Gardens, Southwark Cathedral, Cornerhouse, BCU (Birmingham City University), Standalone Farm, English Heritage, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Rochester Cathedral, National Glass Centre, Dublin Zoo and Bentley Motors.
Paul also supports a number of arts based charities on an ongoing basis, giving his time without charge, to ensure their commercial catering operations are providing the optimum return to each of the respective charities.
His earlier career spans to the 1980’s and includes various senior operational management and strategic development roles within luxury hotels, theatres and art centres, leisure, events and the wider hospitality market. He also spent some time working with a leading marketing and branding agency which has allowed him to further appreciate the relevance of branding and marketing for food and beverage organisations.
This combination of extensive operational knowledge combined with 18 years specialist catering consultancy experience has enabled Paul to work at the most senior levels within organisations whilst at the same time understanding the operational relevance of proposed initiatives and how they will integrate at various business levels.
Paul originally qualified with a BSc (hons) in Hospitality Management and later went on to attain an MBA with distinction. He is a member of the Museums Association and ACE (Association for Cultural Enterprises).
